Our trip to Disney World...
This is going to be another of my long ranting post. It has been a while since I expressed my true feelings with all of you, so I need to do so now. My last food post was last Monday, Aug 31st. On that very day, later in the evening, I fell sick, and we had to go to the ER (emergency room). I was on antibiotics for five days and was very much nauseated and puking throughout the entire antibiotic course. In the middle of that, we left for disney world. It was pre-booked, so we did not have much of a choice. As soon as we arrived at Disney, my toothache started. It has gotten so worse on Friday, Sept 4th we were thinking of another ER visit. However, thanks to free painkillers in this country, I survived the pain. I was taking six painkillers a day. We tried to call our dentist, but regular doctors are not available during long weekends here. So I was bearing the pulsating toothache until Tuesday morning. I am feeling a bit better, but it will take me a while before I get back to my cooking and recipe posts.
Now let me tell about our recent disney world trip. My husband has thrice visited Disney in his entire lifetime before this time. But Disney World revives everyone’s childhood memory. I was super excited to meet my childhood love – Mickey.
Disney is good, but it’s the worst to travel to burning hot Florida during summer months. It was scorching and humid hot. My husband and I bought some portable cooling fan with water to cool us, but nothing was helping us overcome the summer heat. I got tanned, and he got sunburnt, heavily. But the best part of Floridian summer was the evening rain, and it was truly quite refreshing. My husband decided to get drenched in rain two of the days we were in the Disney Parks; it was just that hot. So please do not travel in summer, and try to go there during winter.
For the people who have not visited Disney yet, it has four parks – Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and the Animal Kingdom. As we were there only for 2 and ½ days, we decided to go to Hollywood Studios on the very first day. I did not love the Hollywood studio as much I loved the Magic Kingdom. Next time, I might skip it, but it’s worth spending half a day there.
On the second day we went to Epcot. It was less crowded than the Magic Kingdom and filled with science and future. We went to Mars, played with Nemo and underwater friends, and time travelled to future. Epcot also showcases the world’s different food. Different countries come here with their cuisines. We tried the Moroccan (was okay) food and sushi (was excellent) there. Remember one thing; you can’t compare these cuisines with real food, as they are the Disney versions.
The Magic Kingdom is the best among all. It’s colorful, fun and always filled with Disney characters and smiling faces. We were able to see two parades and able to enjoy a couple of rides. I have height phobia, so I did not go on many rides, but there were many regular rides that I enjoyed thoroughly. In the evening, we met some old friends from Boston, who had just moved back to Florida. The guys drank margaritas, tequila flight, wine flight (I do not drink), and we ate Mexican food and funnel cake as desserts.
Many of my friends and family members turned their noses up when they heard about Disney. They think it’s a highly commercial place. Well, it is. But the set, color, props, people, dress codes of the individual ride crews, co-ordination, fireworks, and convenience – are all out of this world. It’s the most convenient place to travel with kids. I needed painkillers, and I was able to get some at my hotel. For two and half days, we did not leave the park but we still felt like we missed so much. There are so many things to do in one place; there is so much to see. So if you want to go for a vacation spot and not move much, Disney is the place for you. However, do remember that in the Park there are no cars – so you have to walk.
Also, Disney World is very handicapped friendly, and all transportation and parks are physically challenged accessible.
We have used the Disney transportation inside the park and to commute among parks. Bus frequency is 15-20 minutes, and it takes about 20 minutes to go from one park to another. I felt like it was a bit time killer, and you waste 40 to 45 minutes commuting. The next time we visit, we will rent a car.
It’s a pre-planned, pre-booked trip where you do not have to do much except show up at the airport. We might go back again, but in December this time.
Beautiful pics Dolphia. Love how the sky has added drama esp in Epcot pic.
Disney is a fun place to be in when its snowing here. They should have retractable awnings where the parade comes and moving walkway in other places keeping in mind the visitors’ well being. Of course a proper castle too if they asked my opinion 😀 .
I agree with you Meena!
Oh this bought memories back. I have to take my daughter and son soon. They’ll LOVE it and it love it even more 🙂
